The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, attachment styles, and coping strategies with the tendency to extramarital affairs in women seeking divorce. The present study was descriptive in terms of its fundamental purpose and data collection method using correlation and regression. Data analysis in the present study was conducted using correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The population of the present study was all women seeking divorce referring to counseling centers in Ardabil, from which 214 people were selected using random sampling method and answered the research questionnaires as the sample group. To collect data, the questionnaire for the tendency to extramarital affairs by Drigotas et al. (1999), the Young Early Maladaptive Schemas Questionnaire (YSQ-SF), the Collins and Reed Adult Attachment Styles Questionnaire (RAAS), and the Lazarus and Folkman Coping Strategies Questionnaire (1984) were used. The findings showed that the three variables of early maladaptive schemas, attachment styles, and coping strategies had a significant relationship (P≤0.001) with the tendency to have extramarital affairs, and together they explained about 17 percent of the changes in the tendency to have extramarital affairs among women seeking divorce (P≤0.001). These results also showed that early maladaptive schemas explained about 16 percent (P≤0.001), attachment styles about 9 percent (P≤0.001), and coping strategies about 10 percent (P≤0.001) of the changes in the tendency to have extramarital affairs.
