Abstract Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness training on emotion regulation difficulties and feelings of loneliness among adolescents with problematic mobile phone use. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test–post-test design and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all adolescents in Tehran exhibiting problematic mobile phone use during the 1404–1405 academic year. The research sample comprised 30 eligible adolescents who, having scored 76 or higher on the Problematic Mobile Phone Use Scale, were selected via convenience sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control group. The experimental group received mindfulness training over eight 90-minute sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Gratz and Roemer Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and the Russell Loneliness Scale, and were analyzed using analysis of covariance. The results indicated that mindfulness training led to a significant reduction in emotion regulation difficulties and feelings of loneliness. Therefore, mindfulness training is an effective approach for improving the emotional and social well-being of adolescents with problematic mobile phone use.
