The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between self-compassion and attitude towards marital infidelity with the mediating role of emotional self-regulation. The present research was a descriptive-correlational one that was carried out in the form of structural equation modeling. The research community consisted of all married students of Islamic Azad University, Ilam branch in the academic year 1402-03, from which 280 people were selected as a statistical sample. The research tools included Whiteley's marital infidelity attitude questionnaire, Neff et al.'s self-compassion questionnaire, and Hoffman and Kashdan's emotional self-regulation questionnaire. Data were analyzed based on structural equation modeling and using AMOS version 24 software. The findings showed that there is a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and attitude towards marital infidelity and a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and emotional self-regulation at the 0.01 level. In addition, a significant negative relationship was obtained between emotional self-regulation and attitude towards marital infidelity. Finally, self-compassion through emotional self-regulation had an indirect effect on students' attitude towards marital infidelity. Based on the above results, the emotional self-regulation model had a favorable fit in the relationship between self-compassion and attitude towards marital infidelity.
